Joe Mara joined Cheiron in January 2007 as a result of the acquisition of Feinstein Glaser Olney & Co. by Cheiron. Previously Joe worked as an actuarial consultant with RSM McGladrey Retirement Resources and Hewitt Associates where he provided actuarial services to single employer and multiemployer pension plans on a range of pension and other post-employment benefit issues. He has been an actuary and employee benefits consultant for over 24 years and has worked with companies of all sizes, from closely held family businesses to large publicly traded companies and Taft-Hartley pension plans.
Currently Joe serves as consulting actuary for several multiemployer and single employer pension plans located in the Midwest. He has many years of experience working closely with clients, helping them understand actuarial and compliance issues as well as legislative changes. Joe is directly involved in all aspects of actuarial work for his clients: funding and accounting valuations, retiree medical valuations, analysis and forecasting under the Pension Protection Act, preparation of government forms, benefit statements, and benefit calculations. In addition, Joe has assisted clients with withdrawal liability calculations, QDROs and plan design issues.
Joe is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries, a Fellow of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries, a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries, an Enrolled Actuary under ERISA, and is working towards Fellowship in the Society of Actuaries. He has also served on the examination committee for the Joint Board for the Enrollment of Actuaries. He graduated with Honors from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics.
