Cheiron’s basic consulting philosophy is first and foremost, always meet clients’ basic requirements. We also seek, however, to tailor our services and focus based on the nature and degree of financial risk our clients face. Cheiron provides a wide range of consulting services in pensions, and health & welfare.
Our approach to serving clients reflects an awareness of a unique confluence of economic and demographic forces affecting benefit plans. For example, we believe that the traditional practice of performing an annual actuarial valuation “check-up” is insufficient for many funds/programs today. Just as people require medical monitoring ranging from annual physicals when they’re healthy, to constant monitoring when they’re acutely ill, institutional funds/programs should be able to benefit from the full spectrum of monitoring according to their financial condition. For a financially healthy fund or benefit program, annual actuarial reviews are sufficient. But funds and programs with serious financial challenges require more; relying solely on a basic annual actuarial checkup, perhaps using out-of-date data, invites disaster.
